Firmenich Flavorist Sylvain Lauvaux enjoys working with botanical ingredients due to their multidimensional nature which he describes as ranging widely from herbal, earthy, to fruity, and even citrusy. Yet, he took an unusual but innovative approach when creating Twilight, an intriguing all-natural and new flavor for the Magical Botanical™ Flavor of the Year Collection. The primary inspiration came from Pantone’s Color of the Year, Very Peri, a blue color with a violet-red undertone that displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.

"I see this color, Very Peri, as that mysterious time of twilight, when as the sun sets, you can imagine the reds and blues of a forest become more saturated for just a moment. To capture the elusive essence of twilight in a flavor, I used various botanical ingredients like juniper berries and blue chamomile as well as a hint of eucalyptus to evoke the feeling of evening’s cooling."
