Absolue Pays de Grasse

Earning the seal of approval for our perfumery ingredients

Our ingredients are exceptional – but you don’t have to take our word for it. That’s because, for nine of dsm-firmenich’s most esteemed and traditional natural ingredients, our “savoir-faire” has been certified by the geographic indication (GI) Absolue Pays de Grasse.

Approved by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) in France, Absolue Pays de Grasse showcases the Grasse region’s historic contributions to and know-how in perfumery cultivation and industrial processes. Since 2018, the label has stood as an internationally trusted recognition and protection of the unique quality of Grasse absolutes, thanks to the region’s terrain, climate, and 300-year history of artisanal perfumery expertise.

Unique and irreplaceable ingredients

Each certified ingredient meets the following cultivation and process requirements

Cultivation

The absolute objects of the GI must either (i) be produced in the area identified as a historic area for the cultivation of perfume plants straddling the Alpes Maritimes, the Var, and the Alpes de Haute Provence or (ii) come from plants picked or grown in the same area.

Extraction process

The plant raw material or biomass should be extracted with a volatile solvent, either by supercritical fluid or enfleurage, to obtain a floral ointment called “concrete.”

Transformation into absolute

The transformation of the primary extract into absolute should take place by alcoholic washing, glazing, filtration, pre-concentration, and fine concentration under vacuum.
