Conjuring creativity through technology

Combining our mastery of advanced technologies with our state-of-the-art proprietary processes, we bring the power of transformation to our talented perfumers and flavorists – opening the door to a world of creativity and innovation.

From infusion to molecular distillation; from green chemistry to biotechnology; our approaches enable creative solutions that deliver the high performance, efficiency, and sustainability that today's ingredient industry demands.

Green chemistry

As a responsible business, we're guided by the 12 principles of green chemistry in our creation of the next generation of renewable molecules. What's more, by combining green chemistry approaches with biotechnology, we can semi-synthesize remarkable, delightful molecules that were unattainable – or even unimaginable – just a few short years ago.

Biotechnology

In 2014, Clearwood® became the first in our series of iconic bio-based ingredients that have since established our leadership in biotechnology. Today, we use sustainable sugar fermentation, bio-conversion techniques, and advanced distillation to create ingredients from renewable carbon. Of course, as well as being exceptionally high quality, these ingredients are also affordable, readily available, and sustainable.

Supercritical fluid extraction

Natural and recycled carbon dioxide is converted into a supercritical fluid that's gently diffused through natural materials, delicately capturing the olfactive or organoleptic compounds. We believe SFE gives us "the richest palette of true to natural ingredients in our industry” – from treasure flower petals to tea leaves and from precious spices to groundnuts.

Solvent extraction

This historical process brings natural materials like rose petals into contact with solvents and ethanol, extracting the resinoid or absolute. The result? A heavenly range of naturals that adds "richness, density, and signature" to a perfume.

NaturePrint®

First, we analyze the natural fragrance from "mute" flowers or other materials that only surrender their scent into the headspace around them. Then, we use advanced technology to “recreate nature while not damaging it.”

Molecular distillation

Molecular distillation is our long-established way of further refining – for example – a precious essential oil or rare absolute. This creates colorless ingredients with elegant and pure, yet powerful, profiles in "precise and delicate" concentrations.

Infusion

Building on the longstanding industry traditions, we macerate natural materials in alcohol at warm or cold temperatures to produce infusions or tinctures that “add an authentic natural patina and provide a simple natural addition to any composition".

Cold expression

Starting with the skin or peel of delicious fruits, cold expression combines many different techniques, to squeeze out fragrant citrus essential oils with amazing authenticity and quality – "almost as if you bottled the experience of peeling an orange."

Distillation

This ancient process allows us to extract fragrances from natural materials such as flowers, spices, and gums using the steam from fresh water. The droplets first capture the essential oil before bursting and releasing it. Some perfumers believe there's almost “a mystical dimension to the distillation of essential oils.”

Co-extraction

This process, which blends natural ingredients with molecules through the use of extraction technologies, proves that one plus one can equal more than two. It produces fragrances inspired by nature and fulfils “the perfumer's dream to get two materials into one.”

Pyrogenation

We call this process Vulcain, honoring the Greek god of fire. It involves heating oils and resinoids at high temperatures until "a perfectly monitored transformation" occurs, producing smoky, leathery effects that "raise the temperature of the perfume."

Naturome

Naturomes are produced using the gentlest processes available: steam distillation, hydrodistillation, and volatile recovery. This delivers “rich aromatic profiles that are very close to the original flavor of the natural biomass.” The result is fresh, authentic taste with no additives or preservatives.

Smell-The-Taste™

Smell-The-Taste™ is the art of expressing tastes into fragrances, based on retro-olfaction, molecular volatility, and the creator's own expert interpretations. Drawn from the expertise of flavorists, this technique helps perfumers create ingredients that give texture, appetizing emotion, and innovation to new fragrances.
