Rainer Voegeli, scientist at DSM, used the prize money from his 2016 IFSCC’s Applied Research Award for travel grants to enable young talented African scientists to attend at IFSCC events.
Rainer Voegeli, Scientist at DSM Personal Care, and his team has donated the prize money he received from the 2016 IFSCC’s Applied Research Award to a young scientist, and we’d like to share the story with you.
In line with our CORNEOCARE™ approach related to the research of epidermal science, DSM Personal Care has long partnered with the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University of Limpopo, South Africa to gain as much insight as possible to innovate opportunities for more efficient, multi-ethnic moisturizing care.
This close relationship has allowed Rainer and his team to not only locally monitor essential studies, but also to gain vast knowledge and understanding about skin of different ethnicities in the region, and the circumstances under which the research is conducted.
Therefore, it was no surprise that he used the prize money from his 2016 IFSCC’s Applied Research Award for travel grants to enable young talented African scientists to attend and contribute at IFSCC events.
Across a number of applicants whose papers were accepted by the Seoul Conference Science Committee, Rainer and the board of the SWISS SCC selected Adama Sangaré of the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar, Senegal, who evaluated the cosmetic properties of an extract of Xylopia aethiopica in a human study using a picture analysis device and processing software. The results will be used to feed a specific database for darkly pigmented skin.
DSM Personal Care would like to take the opportunity to wish Adama all the best at the IFSCC Conference in Seoul. Furthermore, we would like to thank Rainer and his team once again for making all this happen with their investment and continual support of the future of bright science.
Another good news is, that the prize money will also cover a travel grants for another young African scientist for the IFSCC Congress in 2018. For grant application watch out for forthcoming IFSCC’s newsletters or updates on our DSM Personal Care website.
