Public health supplementation

Unlocking greater opportunities for the best start in life

Maternal and infant undernutrition is the underlying cause of almost half of all deaths in children under five.1,2 When healthy diets are out of reach and malnutrition threatens lives, nutrition programs and public health supplementation are cost-effective ways to reach vulnerable women and children.

These initiatives help provide them with the essential nutrients they need from preconception through childhood.3 Nutrient-dense solutions, such as Ready-to-Use Supplementary Foods (RUSFs), have the potential to save and change lives by supporting adequate nutritional intake at these critical stages of development.

Reaching vulnerable populations with essential nutrition

Fortified blended foods

like Super Cereal and Super Cereal Plus are typically made from cereals and grains enriched with micronutrients and widely used as food aid.4

Ready-to-Use Supplementary Foods (RUSFs)

Small quantity lipid-based nutrient supplements (SQ-LNS)

help provide children aged 6+ months with energy, protein, essential fatty acids and micronutrients. They can be directly eaten or mixed with foods at home.1,2,3,4

Multiple Micronutrient powders (MNPs)

can be sprinkled over homemade or school meals without affecting taste, consistency or appearance, to address nutritional deficiencies in babies and children.1,2

Multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS)

in formats from tablets to capsules have the potential to save lives – especially those of women and children – and improve birth outcomes.
