Carbonated Apatite is currently used in dental and spinal applications, chosen by our partners due to its native textured surface. Biomedical compounds this osteoconductive material with its medical-grade collagen to create custom forms, tailored to our partner’s specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Here are common questions that our experts get asked. Do you have a different question? Contact us

  • We can work with a variety of materials, but the most common bioceramics we offer are derived from porcine bone or synthesized from calcium salts.

  • No. Bioceramics come in many types - which are typically classified as osteoconductive, osteostimulative, and osteoinductive. The differences between these categories are based on cell-signaling ability; although controlling the physical properties of the material through a controlled process can also improve performance.

  • dsm-firmenich Biomedical produces bioceramics using current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) in ISO Class 8 Clean Rooms. For more information, please see our Quality & Certifications.

ColoSSIS Technique Guide

We understand that medical product development can be a long, winding - and occasionally bumpy road. Rest assured that at dsm-firmenich Biomedical, we have the proven experience, capabilities, and knowledge to support you every step of the way.

It starts with using a form-fit-function approach based on a comprehensive understanding of how the human body reacts to biomaterials following implantation. This in turn enables us to design materials that are compatible with the body’s physiology and help you develop finished products that can sustain, restore, and repair – all supported by applicable regulatory requirements.
