HMO donation program

The HMO donation program was established in 2010 to support research into the health benefits of human milk oligosaccharides.

About the donation program

To date, dsm-firmenich has supported over 100 research projects through the donation program. These projects span 55 different research centers all around the globe. The donation program accesses dsm-firmenich’s HMO library, which contains nearly 20 different HMO structures and mixtures.

Click on the buttons below to download the brochure for more information about the HMO Donation Program, to access our HMO library available for donation, or to download our donation request form.

Submitted forms should provide a reasonable overview on the planned project as well as information on the applicant. We have rolling submissions.

For more information on how to apply potential applicants should contact hmo.donation@dsm.com.

“The science behind HMOs is only at the beginning and we believe there are many benefits to be unlocked by these fascinating molecules.  The spirit of the donation program is to make a large variety of the HMOs available for research to find out how they can benefit human health and wellbeing. We want to promote and support science that will unlock the magic of HMOs.”

Travel Grants

To enable researchers to connect in person again and to further encourage research on HMOs among young, promising researchers, dsm-firmenich has made available four (4) travel grants to present HMO-related research in person at the 2025 ESPGHAN Conference.

About the Travel Grant:

Applications are sought from pre-clinical and clinical trials with a focus on HMO mechanisms of action, understanding their health benefits and any HMO knowledge that will contribute to improving clinical practice and nutrition during early life. Young professionals (less than 10 years of experience) active in the field of HMO research can participate in this grant application.

Abstract submissions must have been accepted for poster or oral presentation by the ESPGHAN scientific committee. Confirmation of acceptance will be requested.

“As a leader and expert in HMO development, we are keen to encourage academics and researchers to expand their knowledge and understanding of HMOs. We would love to collaborate with young researchers to enable a wider development of understanding in HMO science. We also recognize how important it is to be able to share these findings in person and so are happy to offer these travel grants as a way of supporting academics in presenting their findings to their peers.”
