We are proud to announce that Tina Wang, DSM Senior Manager, Regional Technical Services Eubiotics in North America, is the winner of the 2019 World Veterinary Poultry Association (WVPA) – Zoetis Young Poultry Veterinarian of the Year. This award was presented on September 17, 2019, at the 2019 WVPA Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. The award was launched in 2012 and is presented annually to a young (less than 35 years old) poultry veterinarian who is seen to be a credit to the profession, who is an ambassador and a communicator and who would be seen as a worthy winner by all sections of the poultry industry.
“We couldn’t be more proud and honored that Dr. Wang was chosen for this award. She is among an elite group of veterinarians who genuinely care about the animal health industry and work toward its betterment,” said Dr. April Levy, Director, Regional Technical Services North America.
Dr. Yun-Ting “Tina” Wang earned the degrees of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Science in Poultry Virology from National Chung-Hsing University in Taiwan in 2009 and 2011. She received her Master of Avian Medicine (MAM) degree, a clinical poultry veterinarian residency training programme from the University of Georgia (USA) in 2013. After that, she passed the American College of Poultry Veterinarian (ACPV) exam and got her ACPV diploma. In 2018, Tina attained a Master of Business Administration degree specialised in global business management (MGM) from Thunderbird Global Business Management School while working full-time as a Senior Manager Regional Technical Service -- Poultry. Tina is the first and only Taiwanese MAM graduate and ACPV diplomate.
After coming to the U.S., she has gained a wealth of knowledge about poultry diseases, diagnosis and field management. Tina enjoys sharing her deep poultry research and field knowledge with small community farmers to improve their productivity. She also presents research findings and clinical cases frequently at AVMA, WPC and WVPAC.
Tina is committed to developing creative approaches and innovative solutions not only in veterinary science but also in the nutritional field. She works closely with nutritionists from major international organisations to develop cross-disciplinary best practices. In the past seven years, Tina has been invited to give many talks about poultry veterinarian career and life in different universities, in both Taiwan and the U.S. She previously taught a two-day poultry health course for Taiwanese poultry veterinarians by invitation from the Taiwan Agriculture Technology Research Institute.
“Tina embodies the essence of why this award was created,” said Nigel Horrox, WVPA president. “There are many challenges for poultry veterinarians and researchers, and Dr. Wang has achieved so much in such a short time. We are excited to see what she does for the industry in years to come.”
The WVPA award is judged by a panel of members of the WVPA and is led by the president of the WVPA. The recipient of the award receives $5,000, which is to be used to attend scientific meetings in order to further develop his/her professional knowledge.
“This award means the world to me,” Tina said. “I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to work in this field and collaborate with so many skilled professionals. This achievement encourages me to continue working, sharing my knowledge and perspective, and helping others as much as I can.”
