Born and raised in an ag family, my connection with animals (Buffalo, Chicken & Pets) begin since my childhood. Those were the days when we used to take our buffalos for grazing, before and after school, as having fun playing cricket on the field. Drinking fresh and wholesome milk from our buffaloes, eating eggs and chicken from our poultry made all my family very strong & healthy. Fortunately (and with hard work) I got admitted to a prestigious Veterinary College and moved to Mumbai for my studies. Those five years learning veterinary medicine and animal science further strengthen my connection with farm animals.
One key thing I realized during my journey is that around 70% of farm expenses happens on feeding the animals and if we want to make animal farming not only profitable but also sustainable, we must master feed. That’s when I decided to pursue my masters in Animal Nutrition. When I look back at the milk and egg production efficiency at the farm, it was far less compared to what I came across during my education in Animal Nutrition. This made me more and more curious about animal feeding and how it can be a game changer for sustainable animal production.
And finally in the year 2004, I entered the animal feed industry as a Poultry Nutritionist, working for a broiler integration division of one of the leading feed companies in India. I experienced how feed enzymes inclusion can help not only with feed cost reduction but also improving nutrient digestibility. This improved digestibility is nothing but less nutrient excreted in feces. So I was able to contribute to minimize nutrient losses, reduce environmental pollution and increase usage of unconventional feed ingredients, creating a more sustainable future for animal farming. Lameness, poor skeletal development, poor egg shell quality, broken eggs are some of the challenges customers are facing on the farms. Helping farmers to overcome these challenges always gives me the feeling of doing something meaningful and it’s all possible by just using HyD®. This bright solution helps in improving life time performance of birds by improving health and welfare at every stage of the life cycle. It helps in bringing tangible and measurable impacts on food loss and waste. Each extra egg laid and every additional unbroken egg produced by feeding HyD® helps in providing affordable nutrition for all. Isn’t it rewarding?
Lot has changed since my childhood. Here in India consumers are getting more and more aware about the quality of the food they buy. They are also showing concern about antibiotic usage & welfare in animal production. The population is increasing on one side and resources like land and water are decreasing day by day. People are talking about environmental pollution caused by animal farming. It’s the right time to deploy tools to improve animal performance, to improve the quality of animal proteins, while reducing food loss & waste and the emissions from livestock, producing more with less natural resources.
The WE MAKE IT POSSIBLE new positioning supports our ambition to be the world leader in animal nutrition & health, providing tangible and measurable solutions to our customers so together we can tackle the biggest challenges facing society & the animal protein industry, making animal producers proud again of their efforts to feed the world. At DSM, we strongly believe in sustainable food systems and that the livestock industry can transform itself from within to be a part of the solution. We want to play a key role in this transformation and work at species and country level, with our partners, to provide tangible and actionable solutions to create brighter lives for all.
If not us, who?
If not now, when?
So, let’s make it possible!
