Animal Nutrition & Health

An End-of-Year Message from Kristin Bonham to Our Customers

Dear Customers,

I hope you’ve had a great start to the holiday season. I’m sure many of you would agree that 2024 has flown by. It’s been quite the year for our dsm-firmenich team as we look toward our Animal Nutrition & Health carve-out and the changing political landscape of 2025 and beyond.

We know there are many outstanding questions around how next year will look – foreign vs. domestic production, potential tariffs, and product availability. My team and I have been discussing solutions that prioritize meeting your needs, including more timely completion of the orders that are critical to your operation. dsm-firmenich has spent decades building a strong network of production sites and resources globally. We are the only feed additive company that can supply key vitamins from Europe. This European centric vitamin production combined with vertical integration between vitamins and premixes allows us to offer unique supply resilience in these uncertain times.

But it doesn’t stop with international support. Here in North America, a key priority has been identifying the best path for local feed additive production of certain performance solutions products, with the goal of more timely production and delivery. We are actively working through these plans, and I’m excited to share more updates with you in 2025. In the meantime, check out this video series on our North America premix plants featuring the capabilities and people who work tirelessly to produce your products at the highest standards.

Another key focus for my team this year has been our 25-OH D3 offering Hy-D. As the original 25-OH D3, our patented product is backed by extensive scientific research, including more than 100 research trials globally across swine, poultry, and ruminants. While some lead, others follow. We aim to lead, in partnership with you, and we will continue to defend this high-quality, scientifically proven 25-OH D3 offering fit for your livestock.

I ended last year’s letter with my grandmother Quick’s sour cream cookie recipe. If you didn’t get a chance to try them, check out the recipe. As the year wraps up, I strongly encourage my team to take time with family and friends to enjoy the holiday season and those family traditions they’ve built over the years. Sharing a family holiday recipe with you is a tradition I’d like to continue. This year’s recipe comes from Heather Pelzer, Customer Experience Director, NA. Check out Heather’s story and Apple Goodie recipe below.

Thank you for instilling your trust in dsm-firmenich this and every year. I wish you a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Apple Goodie by Heather Pelzer

This recipe, known as 'apple goodie,' comes from my Grandma Hayes. It was lovingly penned by her and later digitized for me to keep among my favorite recipes. However, I always treasure the original card with her handwriting, complete with a little stain from making the 'goodie' over the years. My grandparents owned a century farm in Iowa, which is now cash rented out, but my cousin resides on the farmstead. Every time I prepare this apple goodie, I am instantly reminded of my grandmother's love and the fantastic aroma that would fill the house. Adding to this fond memory, I recall picking fresh apples from my dad's farm just after Labor Day, which added another special touch to this delightful recipe.

As the holidays approach, we often find ourselves missing those we love who are no longer with us. Yet, they remain cherished through our experiences, memories, and the delicious food we continue to enjoy. I hope this story brings a smile to your face and perhaps inspires you to reflect on your own cherished memories and family traditions.
