Animal Nutrition & Health

Mid-Year Message from Kristin Bonham to Our Customers

Dear ANH Customers,

I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer as fall is right around the corner. I’ve been lucky to have a summer filled with family both near and far. I spent the 4th of July holiday at my parents’ home in Michigan, and as always, that family time and lending a hand on my family’s dairy operation were highlights of my visit.

As we pass the midway point in the year, it’s become a tradition to provide a summer update to you. I truly enjoy and appreciate the chance to share our Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) North America updates. I am proud of the work our team has done and of our partnerships with you to provide safe, innovative and reliable solutions that you count on.

With the continued volatility in the vitamin market, many of us are participating in discussions around the vital need for vitamins as a fundamental input to animal feed and the animal agriculture industry. As we drive an open dialogue with our partners, industry leaders, and key industry organizations, we’re also encouraging all to keep a few things in mind.

It’s critical to understand the reliability, traceability, and quality of the vitamins you are purchasing. As the only feed additive company that can supply key vitamins from Europe, our dsm-firmenich team takes pride in our ability to produce many critical vitamins like D. Our vitamin D3 metabolite 25-OH D3, also known as HyD, has more than 25 years in the poultry market and more than 7 years in the swine market. More than 100 research trials have demonstrated the safety and benefits of HyD, and continued access to vitamins like this is critical for livestock health.

We also should carefully think through the security of supply and consider the elasticity of vitamin prices and supply when capacity is minimized or even lost. It’s more important than ever that we do what we can as an industry to support supply reliability, including engaging with groups like the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA).

Since we announced the ANH carve-out from the broader dsm-firmenich organization in February, I’ve received several questions on where it stands. Our business fundamentals are strong. We look forward to becoming an even more agile organization and providing ANH the freedom to innovate, prioritize capital allocation, and deliver on our own terms focused on the animal feed markets.

We aspire to become a truly new company with leading innovation, manufacturing, and technology capabilities as we combine the most comprehensive portfolio in Animal, Nutrition & Health with a total solutions approach to you, our customer.

We are making good progress toward our goal of finalizing the separation sometime in the course of 2025. As we continue preparing ANH for the carve-out, I don’t anticipate any major updates to share through the remainder of 2024, but as updates do arise, we will keep you informed.

I’d like to end by sharing a recent innovation that has generated a lot of excitement. This year, we introduced Bovaer® to the Canadian market following authorization from Canadian authorities. Bovaer, also approved for use in the U.S., is a methane reducing feed ingredient for cattle, which enables dairy and beef farmers to substantially lower their carbon footprint. Thank you to the more than 120 Canadian partners who joined us for a live webinar in February. During the webinar we discussed how Bovaer works to reduce methane and reviewed the studies behind this innovation. If you are interested in learning more about Bovaer, you can view our webinar.

With fall quickly approaching, I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming industry events. I wish you all a wonderful rest of the summer. Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership.

Kind Regards,

Kristin Bonham
